New Zealand Breakers will not re-sign Corey Webster

The New Zealand Breakers announced on Tuesday morning that they will not be bringing back guard Corey Webster next season.

The press release by the team mentioned that it was a mutual decision between both the Breakers and Webster to not pick up the final year option on his contract.

Webster is now free to sign anywhere he desires, including another ANBL team, and Breakers General Manager Dillon Boucher believes Webster will have no problem finding a new home.

“He has had a challenging six months and has in that time struggled with his physical fitness and the distraction of off-court issues. Corey agreed that it might be the right time for him to pursue those new challenges elsewhere and see where he can go in the game,” said Dillon Boucher via the Breakers’ press release.

The 28-year-old has had his fair share of problems over the past couple of years, including his most recent incident in which he was charged with assault over an altercation in Takapuna last year.

Webster could very well move overseas to Europe, or even the States, but the most likely scenario is that he remains in the ANBL and suits up with a different team next season.

He is widely considered as one of the hottest free agents on the market and his services will be in high demand.
