The Taranaki Mountainairs has signed forward Javonte Douglas, according to NZhoops on Twitter.
Douglas played for the Old Dominion Monarchs and Montevallo Falcons during his college career before going undrafted in the 2017 NBA draft.
In his senior season at Montevallo, Douglas compiled averages of 24.2 points, 11.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 34.9 minutes per game (22 games). He had tidy shooting percentages too, nailing 53.3 percent of his field goals and 46.5 percent from three.
Douglas was suspended during his time with Old Dominion after being charged for assaulting a student. Douglas was arrested, but later released on bail. This prompted the move to Montevallo for his final year at college.
Since his college days, Douglas has spent time in Paraguay and Cyprus.
NBL teams are allowed to add up to three import players for the upcoming season. Expect more announcements from various teams in the coming days.
