The Southland Sharks have signed Australian guard Jarrad Weeks, the team has announced.
Weeks spent time in the ANBL with the Cairns Taipans this past season, playing in all 27 games. He posted averages of 8.3 points, 2.0 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 19.3 minutes per game, shooting 37.3 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from three.
Multiple NZ NBL teams registered their interest in the 28-year-old, but he ultimately decided to join Southland.
“I like to play an up-tempo style of basketball, up-and-in on the defensive end and try to go down the other end and get some sneaky dunks if I can or push the ball and try and play an exciting brand of basketball. I think with the guys Judd (Flavell) has in the team we can accomplish that and really make a good push at it (the NBL title),” said Weeks.
The Sharks’ season begins on April 26 against the Hawke’s Bay Hawks.
