The Canterbury Rams have signed guard Xavier Thames as their second import for the 2018 NZ NBL season.
The 27-year-old Thames was drafted 59th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors, before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets.
Thames spent most of his time in the G-League and with the Nets’ Summer League team in Las Vegas. He’s also had stops in Spain, Macedonia, Israel and Greece.
Thames played his college ball at San Diego State and was productive in his senior year, averaging 17.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists on 41.1 percent shooting from the field and 37.4 percent from three.
Thames attended San Diego State with recent Rams signee Winston Shepard, so the pair will bring some established chemistry to the lineup as well.
He’s a talented scorer who should offer a nice boost to the Rams’ rotation this season.
The Rams begin their season on April 27 against the Super City Rangers.
