The Tall Blacks have secured the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games with a 79-69 win over Scotland on Sunday morning.
Thomas Abercrombie, who’s had a fantastic tournament, was sensational in the victory with 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field and 6-of-9 from three.
The Tall Blacks shot a solid 51 percent from the field as a team, but turnovers (18) yet again held them back from truly dominating a valiant Scottish squad.
Scotland were held to just 35 percent shooting for the game. New Zealand’s defence has been solid throughout the Games, and they really clamped down on Scotland when needed too during the contest.
Tall Blacks head coach Paul Henare was proud of his team’s effort during their time at the Commonwealth Games.
“I am very proud, they have been fantastic these past couple of weeks, we have played at a really high level and at a not so high level at times, but the passion and fight and courage they play with is always pleasing, I just want to make sure they embrace and celebrate this moment. Not too many people in the world get to stand on the podium at the Commonwealth Games, they have earned that right and I am proud of them for doing that.”
Whilst New Zealand will be disappointed not to have gone further, securing a bronze medal is still something to be proud of.
