The Wellington Saints have reportedly signed former Tall Blacks forward B.J. (Benny) Anthony, according to NZ Hoops on Twitter.
The Super City Rangers were also reportedly in the running to sign Anthony, but he ultimately decided to ink a deal with the defending champs.
Anthony has played for numerous NBL teams during his career, including the Harbour Heat, Waikato Pistons and Otago Nuggets. He’s also played for the Saints two times prior to this year, in 2014 and from 2016-17.
He’s a three-time NBL champion, and has won two ANBL championships during his time with the New Zealand Breakers.
The 29-year-old will serve as a key cog for the Saints this season, as they look to follow-up their unbeaten 2017 campaign with a similar effort again.
The Saints tip-off their season against the Southland Sharks on April 27, a grand final rematch from 2017.
UPDATE:
The Saints have since confirmed the signing.
