The New Zealand Breakers are reportedly eyeing Melbourne United centre Majok Majok, according to the NZ Herald.
Majok is currently an ANBL free agent and is free to sign wherever he desires. The Breakers, per reports, are currently among teams expressing interest.
The 25-year-old recently signed with the Wellington Saints for the 2018 Sal’s NBL season, playing under new Breakers head coach Kevin Braswell. Their familiarity with one another could be a factor in the Breakers’ decision to pursue Majok.
Majok won the ANBL Championship last season with Melbourne, posting averages of 3.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
The Breakers are also reportedly interested in Majok’s Melbourne teammate and former Breaker, Tai Wesley. Reports indicate a deal between Wesley and the Breakers is imminent.
The Breakers’ new ownership and coaching staff are showing no hesitation in building the roster their way. They’ve re-signed Shea Ili, Finn Delaney, Thomas Abercrombie and Jordan Ngatai and added Australian guard Jarrad Weeks, while letting long-time veteran Mika Vukona and sharp-shooter Rob Loe walk to Australian clubs.
In addition, the Breakers and Alex Pledger are reportedly close to parting ways. Pledger is under contract for next season, but the team has told Pledger that he can pursue opportunities with other teams. Melbourne United is one potential landing spot for Pledger, per the Herald.
The Breakers’ roster overhaul is only just getting started, so buckle up for an interesting offseason ahead.
