The Bay Hawks have defeated the Nelson Giants 89-85 in front of a packed Pettigrew Green Arena on Saturday night.
There wasn’t much separating the two teams throughout the contest, but the Hawks made some key plays down the stretch to seal the deal at home.
Dion Prewster (22 points) and Ethan Rusbatch (20 points) combined for 42 points tonight. Rusbatch nailed five 3-pointers, while Prewster shot a tidy 7-of-10 from the field.
Veteran guard Jarrod Kenney recorded an 11-6-5-3 line in 33 minutes of work. Import Jamie Skeen totaled 10 points and six rebounds on 4-of-7 shooting for the home side.
Youngster Mitchell Newton shot 3-of-4 from downtown for Hawke’s Bay.
Damon Heuir bounced back from his rough shooting night last night to amass 27 points on 9-of-18 shooting (3-of-9 from three). Fellow Australian Kyle Adnam notched 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in 34 minutes.
Jerry Evans Jr. struggled with his shot, shooting just 6-of-18 from the field for 14 points. He did, however, hit two 3-pointers in his 32 minutes of action.
The Hawks move back on top of the Sal’s NBL ladder with tonight’s win, while the Giants drop to 3-1 on the season.
