The Canterbury Rams have upset the Nelson Giants on Saturday night, cruising to a 104-90 victory.
Xavier Thames led the way for Canterbury with 24 points on 5-of-15 shooting from the field and 3-of-9 from three.
Fellow Americans Winston Shepard and Julian Washburn were also productive. Shepard finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block on 7-of-15 shooting, while Washburn had 17 points and nine rebounds on 6-of-12 shooting.
Tony Tolovae also dropped 21 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block on 8-of-13 shooting for the Rams. Maxwell Darling added 14 points and nine rebounds.
The Giants got contributions from Jerry Evans Jr., who managed 21 points and six rebounds, and Kyle Adnam who scored 20 points to go with seven assists. They combined to shoot 14-of-29 from the field and 3-of-11 from downtown.
Finn Delaney added an efficient 16 points for Nelson on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor.
The Rams were able to gain an advantage on the glass tonight, outrebounding the Giants 45-28.
Canterbury are now 3-1 after the victory, while Nelson drop to 3-2.
