New Zealand Tall Blacks guard Shea Ili has landed a potentially career-altering opportunity with the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks.
According to the NZ Herald, Ili has been invited to attend a two-day mini-camp with the Mavericks on June 18-19.
Corey Webster, who recently re-signed with the Breakers, also took part in the same mini-camp with the Mavs last year and was invited to participate in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas with the team, too. Ili will be hoping to follow a similar path to his Breakers teammate.
Ili signed a two-year contract extension with the Breakers back in March, but will be free to chase his NBA dream during the ANBL offseason.
Ili was named the Australian NBL’s Most Improved Player last season and is leading the way for the Wellington Saints in the Sal’s NBL this season.
The 25-year-old currently leads the Sal’s NBL in scoring at 26.9 points per game, while also averaging 4.9 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.9 steals per game. Ili’s shooting 49.2 per cent from the field and 31.7 per cent from three.
