The Wellington Saints have escaped with a win over the Taranaki Mountainairs 98-89 on Saturday.
The Saints’ victory was far from easy, as they trailed by 10 points heading into the final quarter. However, a 32-13 fourth was enough to propel them over the Airs to avoid the upset.
Shea Ili was yet again superb with 28 points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals in 39 minutes, shooting 9-of-19 from the field and 3-of-8 from three.
Majok Majok and Leon Henry both managed double-doubles for the Saints. Majok recorded 13 points and 16 rebounds, while Henry had 15 points, 13 rebounds and three steals in 27 minutes.
Shaun Bruce moved into the starting lineup and did a solid job, posting 19 points, two rebounds, four assists and two steals on 6-of-13 shooting and 3-of-7 from three. Jordan Ngatai added 12 points for the Saints.
Javonte Douglas had a great game for the Airs with 25 points and six rebounds on 9-of-13 shooting and 2-of-2 from three.
Roger Woods was productive with 15 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and one steal in 34 minutes, while Alonzo Burton (14 points) and Houston O’Riley (11 points) were also solid.
The Saints are now 9-1 on the season following the come from behind win, and the Airs drop to 2-8.
