The Taranaki Mountainairs have upset the Bay Hawks 90-84 in overtime on Saturday night.
The Airs got big contributions from Alonzo Burton and Javonte Douglas. Burton finished with 26 points, seven rebounds and two steals on 8-of-20 shooting from the field and 6-of-12 from three, while Douglas managed 25 points, eight rebounds, two steals and one block on 10-of-22 shooting.
Roger Woods posted 16 points, seven rebounds and two steals in 32 minutes of work, shooting 6-of-14 from the field and 2-of-3 from three.
Xavier Smith was solid off the bench for Taranaki, dropping 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks on 5-of-9 shooting, while Houston O’Riley added 10 points and seven assists with two 3-pointers.
Jamie Skeen’s big double-double wasn’t enough to get the Hawks the win. He finished with 18 points and 16 rebounds in 45 minutes, shooting 7-of-14 from the floor and 2-of-6 from three.
Dion Prewster scored 19 points, Ethan Rusbatch had 12 points and Everard Bartlett added 12 off the bench. They shot a combined 7-of-23 from distance.
The Airs move to 3-8 following Saturday’s win, while the Hawks’ loss drops them to 6-6.
