The Bay Hawks have solidified their fourth place spot on the Sal’s NBL ladder with a convincing 92-68 victory over the Super City Rangers on Thursday.
The Hawks, who are now 9-6, have separated themselves from the fifth place Rams, who are currently 8-8. The Rangers, however, stumble to 2-14.
Hawke’s Bay used a balanced scoring attack to take down the Rangers at Pettigrew Green Arena. Everard Bartlett led the way with 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting and 3-of-8 from three off the bench.
Tall Blacks guard Jarrod Kenney was productive across the board with 12 points, six rebounds, six assists and one steal on 6-of-13 shooting, while Australian Angus Brandt posted 11 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks in 31 minutes.
Ethan Rusbatch scored 11 points with eight rebounds, but he shot just 4-of-16 from the field in his 33 minutes of work.
Hawks forward Jamie Skeen drilled three 3-pointers for 10 points, while Mitchell Newton and Hyrum Harris each totaled 10 points, too.
Marcel Jones had a massive game for the Rangers despite the loss, producing 24 points, 18 rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block in 39 minutes. He, however, shot just 8-of-22 from the field and missed all six of his 3-point attempts.
Dominique Kelman-Poto also surpassed 20 points on the night, adding six rebounds and two steals on 10-of-15 shooting. Lindsay Tait added 11 points for the Rangers.
The Rangers will be back in action on Friday night against the Taranaki Mountainairs, while the Hawks have a date with the Manawatu Jets on Sunday.
