The Wellington Saints have clinched the top spot with a 91-75 victory over the Nelson Giants on Thursday night.
The Saints certainly didn’t have it as easy as last season, but they knuckled down and managed to get the job done in the end, finishing the season with a 14-3 record.
The Giants will battle it out with the Southland Sharks on Sunday to determine who the No. 2 seed will be.
American import L.J. Peak led the way for Wellington with 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and 1-of-5 from three.
Shea Ili came off the bench for the first time this season and totaled 18 points, two rebounds, five assists and five steals on 7-of-12 shooting.
Shaun Bruce and Jordan Ngatai each turned in solid performances, too. Bruce had 15 points, four rebounds and one steal on 6-of-12 shooting and 3-of-4 from three, while Ngatai dropped 12 points and seven rebounds on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor.
Kyle Adnam continued his great play of late, amassing 19 points, three assists and two steals on 7-of-14 shooting, while fellow Australian Damon Heuir managed 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Tall Black Tohi Smith-Milner recorded 15 points, two rebounds, three assists and one block on 5-of-7 shooting for the Giants, too.
