Promising forward Maxwell Darling has decided to bypass college basketball in the United States to sign a multi-year deal with KK Vrijednosnice Osijek in Croatia.
The 17-year-old Darling is one of New Zealand’s top young prospects, having recently helped the Junior Tall Blacks to a 2019 World Cup berth and a second place finish at the FIBA Under 18 Asian Championship in Thailand.
Darling also spent this past season playing for the Canterbury Rams in the Sal’s NBL, posting averages of 9.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 18 games of action.
The 6-foot-6 forward still has his sights set on the NBA, and believes playing professionally overseas is the best path.
